Pawdometer records where you walked with your dog. That is location data, and we treat it as the sensitive information it is. We do not sell it, we do not share it with data brokers, and we do not use it for advertising.
The short version: your walks are recorded and stored on your iPhone. We do not upload your routes to our servers, and we cannot see where you walk.
You do not create an account to use Pawdometer. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or date of birth.
To record a walk, Pawdometer reads your device's GPS position while the walk is running. It uses that stream of positions to draw your route on a map and to calculate distance, duration and pace.
Location is only read while a walk is active. When you are not on a walk, the app does not track you.
If you allow background location, the app can keep recording while your screen is off or while you are using another app, which is what makes a full route possible without keeping the phone in your hand. iOS shows a status indicator whenever an app is using your location in the background. You can change or revoke this permission at any time in the Settings app, and you can choose to give approximate location instead of precise location, though the route and distance will be much less accurate if you do.
Map imagery is provided by Apple Maps. When a map is displayed, your device requests map tiles for the area you are viewing directly from Apple, under Apple's own privacy policy. We do not send your route to Apple, and we do not receive a copy of those requests.
With your permission, Pawdometer reads step count and motion data from your device's motion sensors so it can show how many steps a walk took. This is read on your device and is not transmitted to us. You can revoke Motion and Fitness access at any time in the Settings app.
If you choose to connect Pawdometer to Apple Health, the app may write your walks as workouts and may read data you explicitly authorize. You control exactly which categories are shared, and you can change or revoke that access at any time in the Health app. We never use Health data for advertising or marketing, we never sell it, and we never share it with third parties. Health data is not required to use the app.
Any details you enter about your dog, such as name, breed, age, weight and photo, are stored on your device so the app can personalize your walks and estimate effort. This information is not transmitted to us.
If you add a photo of your dog, the app accesses only the image you select. It does not read your photo library beyond what you pick, and photos stay on your device.
If you enable notifications, they are scheduled and delivered by your device. We do not need to know your identity to send them.
If you subscribe, the transaction is processed by Apple. We never receive or store your card number or billing details. We receive an anonymous purchase receipt so the app knows your subscription is active, and we may use a subscription management provider to validate that receipt.
If you have enabled sharing of analytics and crash reports with developers in your iOS settings, Apple may send us aggregated, anonymous crash and performance data. This data does not identify you, does not contain your routes, and we cannot use it to contact you. You can turn it off at any time in the Settings app under Privacy and Security.
Pawdometer is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Because your walks and your dog's profile live on your device and not on our servers, there is generally nothing for us to export or delete on your behalf. You can delete individual walks inside the app, and deleting the app removes the data stored on your device. If you believe we hold information about you and want it removed, contact us and we will act on it.
If we add a feature that collects new kinds of data, or that sends any of your data off your device, we will update this page and change the date at the top before that feature ships.
